Miniloc Island Resort

Paradise?

This post is late in coming, considering that we visited there late January this year… But almost a month-and-a-half on, I still couldn’t stop raving about our stay at Miniloc Island Resort (MIR) in El Nido, Palawan. It was by no means our first visit to El Nido, having been there back in 2008. It was, however, our first time to stay at MIR…

The circumstances surrounding our decision to stay at the resort were rather peculiar. It has always had a reputation for being expensive, so we initially avoided booking there. But since the hubby had fallen in love with El Nido during our first visit and was adamant on returning there this year, we had no choice—most especially since the only direct flight into the islands is through Island Transvoyager Inc. (ITI Air), which almost only serves visitors to the El Nido Resorts (which MIR is a part of), and the only other alternative is to fly to Puerto Princesa then spend 5-6 hours by bus to get to El Nido. Anyway, this turned out to be a blessing in disguise—if we hadn’t been forced to book at MIR, we wouldn’t have discovered how wonderful the place really is…

I am not saying MIR isn’t expensive, because it is. I am, however, inclined to say that it is all worth it. Firstly, the amount you pay pretty much covers everything: full-board meals, all the tours, and unlimited use of the resort’s facilities and non-motorized equipment (snorkel gear, kayaks, paddle surfboards, etc.). Secondly, the island the resort is located on, is near most, if not all, of the sites worth visiting in El Nido: e.g. the Big Lagoon is practically just around the corner, you could paddle there in 5 minutes! Last but not the least, all the resort’s staff are very accommodating and friendly. I don’t think I’d be exaggerating if I say you will be treated like VIPs for the entire duration of your stay there—I know we were… 😉

[Just to illustrate how impressed we were with MIR: we broke the resort’s record for returning visitors. While they have had patrons who came back 3 months after the initial visit, we came back 2 days after we left—our initial stay was 19-22 January; we came back on the 24th and stayed until the 26th.]
